66 years of waiting: the legendary concrete Perret Tower in Grenoble is open to the public again.
It was built in 1925 to the design of the architect Auguste Perret for the exhibition.
More than a million people came to the small city of Grenoble, which had a population of about 85,000, to ride up the tower and enjoy the views of the Alps. That is why the Perret Tower was originally called the “Mountain Viewing Tower” — a symbol of progress and engineering in the early 20th century.
The plaque reads: “Be patient, the rock garden is starting to take hold this autumn.”
